> It’s just a pain slogging through
> all those pages and doing it again
> each time you go looking for another app.

it sure is. it's amazing that apple did such a
terrible job in creating this user-experience,
and it's astounding they haven't yet fixed it.

i simply don't understand.

Thanks for the data on how downloads decreased when you raised prices of your app.

You mention that doubling the price of "Record" from $1 to $2 decreased downloads by 41-59%.

However, isn't it possible that part of the reason for the drop was the perception that the price was increased arbitarily.

IOW if the app had started out at $2, many more users may have considered the app as worth $2.
However, since the app was originally priced at $1, users seeing the $2 price may have felt that $2 was too much.

They should have recommendations: based on what kind of apps you have, you would like these apps. Just like Genius for music in iTunes, or recommendations on amazon.

Also developers take pride in their apps, they want to build up a customer-base. So there should be another category where you could browse the developers and there average ratings for their apps.

I feel the pain of the app developers. Really, unless you are directly in the Top lists on iTunes, you're going to have a hard time selling apps.

Unfortunately, the iTunes App Store really isn't all that good for browsing / discovering apps casually. It's just a pain slogging through all those pages and doing it again each time you go looking for another app.

This is where non-iTunes App catalogs such as AppBeacon (and several others) can help users and developers. We can make it easier and more enjoyable for users to find apps and for developers to sell them. Until Apple shuts us all down, I think this is the way to go.
